Lee Cheatle Workshop |Schedule   About our instructor Lee Cheatle is the President of the Bonsai Society of Portland and a key instructor in the Portland club’s very successful mentorship program. Lee has completed a number of Ryan Neil’s multi-week training programs, most recently one focusing on elongating species (spruce, hemlock, yew), which is perfect timing for this workshop! Seasoned members are encouraged to bring extra tools you may have for some of our newer members to borrow. Members should bring wire. Some wire will be available for purchase. Homemade coffee cake or scones will be supplied in the morning. Bring your lunch, coffee, refreshments for the day. There are some restaurants nearby if you want to take a break at lunch. Suggested prep: Participants are encouraged to review the following Bonsai Mirai streams if you have an account. Payment for your stock will be paid on your workshop day. The club expanded it’s learning opportunities in October with a 3-day workshop lead by Portland bonsai artist and instructor, Scott Elser The weekend provided many learning opportunities with each day focusing on a specific aspect. The e-day event was wonderful way for club members to socialize and share the wonderful world of bonsai. Armed with this instruction, Scott began entering trees in the US National Bonsai Show, winning Best Conifer in 2008 and 2010, and Best of Show in 2012. Oct. 1st Forest Farm tour

NOTE FROM JAN ABOUT THE UPCOMING OCT. 1 FOREST FARM TRIP Please let me know via e-mail or phone before Sept.23rd if you plan to go to Forest Farm. I need to let the manager there know approx. how many people will be showing up. He plans to gather some potential bonsai plants together for us to look at to get us started. I’m hoping to find a plant I can take to our workshop in Oct. We plan to meet at Forest Farm at 10:00. It is approx. 25 min. from J’ville. When you arrive you will see a big bldg. on the right and you will pass this and keep going and I’m told it will not be hard to find. We are filling up fast!   Scott Elser Workshop | Schedule   Friday, Oct. 21 | Evening Social and Mugo Pine Presentation | 5 – 8 p.m. Location: Cap Tibbitts home (address forwarded to members) Cap’s mugo pine will be the main tree used for the discussion. Members are encouraged to bring any mugos you have to provide additional samples and discussion opportunities. Members are asked to bring appetizers and a favorite beverage to share. The presentation will be held outside so a coat would be advisable.   Saturday, Oct. 22 | Workshops Location: Baptist Church 675 N. Seasoned members are encouraged to bring extra tools you may have for some of our newer members to use.   Sunday, Oct. 23 | Critique | 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Location: Ashland Art Center (Main classroom – street level) 357 E. Scott will critique one bonsai per person, and if time allows he will proceed to the second round of trees. A cart will be available for larger bonsai.
